Rarely do extensive model upgrades present themselves as well thought-out and conceptually strong as in the case of the Sun Odyssey 33i as a replacement for the 32i. The honest and straightforward turnover of a multitude of good ideas and clever details is convincing.
The basic concept of the Sun Odyssey 33i is based on that of its smaller sister, the 30i. This means that Jeanneau now has two good and strong models in its range as entry-level yachts under ten metres in length. The Sun Odyssey 33i will permanently replace the 32i, but this will not happen until next year. This is because the older boat is still being offered in a swing keel version, which is in high demand, particularly in tidal areas. For the new 33i, on the other hand, the variable draught is under development but not yet ready for series production. For this reason, the 32i will remain in Jeanneau's current programme for the time being.
In the YACHT exclusive test in a fairly strong breeze of around 20 knots, the Sun Odyssey 33i showed an all-round pleasing performance with impressive values both at the cross and on the downwind course. The extremely stiff sailing characteristics and behaviour in the high waves were also good.
The Sun Odyssey 33i is also conceptually much closer to its smaller sister 30i than its predecessor 32i in terms of the area below deck. The increase in boat length has been realised above all in a significantly larger aft cabin, which is now the actual owner's cabin. The Sun Odyssey 33i costs 83,180 euros ex shipyard.
